Stone Veneer Coverage Calculator
Stone veneer is sold by the square foot — flats in boxes of about 10 sq ft, corners in boxes of about 8 linear ft. Enter your wall area to find exactly how many boxes to order, waste included.
160 sq ft wall · flats sold in ~10 sq ft boxes
corners sold in ~8 linear ft boxes
Estimates only — not supplier quotes. Box coverage varies slightly by manufacturer and stone profile. Confirm the exact sq ft per box on the product you are buying.
How the stone veneer coverage calculator works
Stone veneer coverage starts with wall square footage (length × height), minus nothing — you cover openings too, because cuts around windows and doors generate the waste. Add 10–15% waste, then divide by the box coverage (about 10 sq ft for flats) and round up to whole boxes.
Corners are a separate line item: measure the linear feet of outside corners and divide by the corner-box coverage (about 8 linear ft). As a rule of thumb each linear foot of corner also saves roughly half a square foot of flats — the calculator keeps them separate so your order is exact.
flats boxes = ceil(L × H × (1 + waste) ÷ box sq ft) · corner boxes = ceil(corner LF ÷ 8)

Stone veneer coverage calculator FAQ
How is stone veneer sold?
By the square foot. Flat pieces come in boxes covering about 10 sq ft; corner pieces come in boxes covering about 8 linear feet. Flats cover the field of the wall, corners wrap the outside edges.
How much stone veneer do I need for a wall?
Multiply length by height, then add 10% waste. A 20×8 ft wall is 160 sq ft — with waste that is 176 sq ft, or 18 boxes of flats at 10 sq ft per box.
What is the difference between flats and corners in stone veneer?
Flats are the face pieces that cover the flat field of the wall; corners are L-shaped pieces that wrap outside corners so no cut edge shows. Order corners separately by linear feet of corner.
How much waste should I add for stone veneer?
Add 10% for simple rectangular walls and 15% for walls with many windows, doors, or angles. Cut pieces around openings cannot always be reused elsewhere.
How much does stone veneer cost per square foot?
Manufactured stone veneer materials run about $8–$15 per sq ft; professional installation roughly doubles it to $15–$30 per sq ft. Natural thin stone costs more.
Can I install stone veneer myself?
Yes — manufactured veneer is light enough for DIY on a properly prepared substrate (cement board, masonry, or lath over sheathing). Follow the manufacturer’s mortar and flashing details closely.
Does manufactured stone veneer cover the same as natural stone?
The math is identical — both are sold by the square foot. Manufactured veneer is lighter and more uniform, which means less cutting waste; natural stone varies more in thickness.
